Kroger September 29--74 Cents OOP

Repeat after me: "I am allowed to buy steak."

Yes, you read right. Just because we are being frugal and thrifty doesn't mean we can't enjoy the things we love. I made a total profit of $18.51 for buying Glade, so I decided that my husband and I could have a steak for dinner last night. We LOVE LOVE LOVE steak, and there hasn't been any in my home for months. It wasn't a fancy expensive steak, just a sirlion, but it was DELICIOSO!

Here's what my trip to Kroger yesterday looked like:

$9.90 (10) 4-packs of Cottonelle Toilet Paper
$1.98 12-pack Pop-Tarts
$2.00 (2) Land O Lakes Buttery Taste Spread
$7.26 Sirlion Steak
$2.50 3 lb. bag of Apples
$2.99 5 lb. bag of Potatoes
$2.49 3 lb. bag of Onions
$1.00 loaf of Bread

Coupons used:

(10) 50 cents off any Cottonelle TP from 8/24 SmartSource Insert (My region did not receive this coupon, I ordered them from The Coupon Clippers. See details here.)--DOUBLED
(2) 30 cents off Land O Lakes Buttery Taste Spread from 9/7 SmartSource--DOUBLED
(10) $2 off next order coupons from Glade Deal

Paid 74 cents Out-of-Pocket

My savings was $40.92. My savings were over 100% because the $2 off next order coupons actually paid some of the tax.

I still have $4 left from my all my Glade moneymaking and I earned another 75 cents off my next order coupon for buying more Land O Lakes.

CVS September 28

First, I must vent: The local paper has raised its price to $1.75 from $1.50. Ugh! My husband suggested getting a paper route yesterday, and I was very encouraging!!! His cousins used to do it in the Dallas area. He said, "They had sooo many of the coupon inserts leftover." What!?!

Anyway, made a little stop into CVS for the following:

$3.99 Cascade Action Pacs
$9.99 Gillette Fusion Razor
$5.49 CoverGirl Clean Liquid Make-Up
$5.99 CoverGirl Blush (This was marked $5.49 on the shelf, and I didn't notice that it rang up wrong)
$1.98 (2) Dawn Hand Renewal Dish Soap
$1.75 Local Paper

Coupons used:

$5 off $25 Purchase (Previous receipt)
$1 off Cascade Action Pacs (P&G mailing)

$8 ExtraCare Bucks

Paid $4.71 Out-of-Pocket
Earned $5 ExtraCare Bucks for the Gillette Fusion Razor
Earned $5.79 for the CoverGirl Clean Liquid Make-Up
Also got another $5 off $25 purchase Coupon

I'm a Winner...Again!

There are sometimes when I feel like luck is on my side. I've always had a knack for winning contests and giveaways. Not anything too incredibly substantial, but lots of cool stuff.

Before starting this blog, I won a giveaway at Coupon Cravings.

Just a couple of weeks ago, I won this giveaway at Deal Finding Mom.

Now, I will be the proud owner of an ADORABLE new coupon organizer from Moms Helping Moms Save.

I will be posting my first giveaway this weekend, and I want encourage you to enter as many giveaways as you can. Be a winner!

CVS September 26

I spent more than I had intended, because I felt myself inexplicably drawn to the 75% off clearance section where my hands began scooping up cute cheap stuff despite my inward objections... But I still think I did good! My subtotal was above $25, so I was able to use my $5 off $25 coupon from a previous purchase and I used $5 ExtraCare Bucks.

Here were the items on my list:

(5) 1 Liter Propel Fitness Waters
$1 each
Used (5) 50 cents off coupons from a tearpad at a local drugstore/gas station where I pay my electric bill
Earned $3 ExtraCare Bucks
I got paid 50 cents to buy these.

$1.39
Used (2) 50 cents off coupons from a tearpad at a gas station
Earned $1 ExtraCare Buck
Final Price: 78 cents

(2) 4.2 oz. Crest Pro-Health Toothpastes
$2.99 Sale Price
Used (1) 75 cents off and (1) $1 off coupons from P&G Inserts
Earned $4 ExtraCare Bucks
Final Price: 23 cents

From the clearance section, I got these adorable magazine holders--their new function will be more coloring book oriented. They were $1.50 each and will work perfectly in my boys' new room (I will be painting the purple one red).

I got something else, but I'm not ready to unveil it just yet--I'm working on my first giveaway!

My receipt contained a few more coupons, most notably another $5 off $25 purchase. I spent $10.51 and walked out with $8 ExtraCare Bucks.

I Think I'm In Love

With The Coupon Clippers!

I received my coupon order today, and I am just uber-excited about all the stockpiling opportunities!

I placed my order on Saturday morning, received an immediate confirmation e-mail, received a shipping notification e-mail on Monday, and received my coupons this morning. Like a little present in my mailbox!

I don't think this will completely eliminate my desire for a paper each week, but it will definitely be a resource I utilize. There are some coupons I only want one of, like make-up or cleansers I can get FREE after ExtraCare Bucks at CVS, because they usually limit it to one anyway. Then, there are some coupons I want a LOT of--canned goods, snack foods, frozen goods.

Plus, as previously mentioned, my region STINKS to high heaven and I miss out on a lot of really good coupons. I can order those not received in my area.

Thanks, Coupon Clippers! You've earned a loyal customer!

Big Shopping Day!

I did some serious shopping on Saturday (I'm so late on the delivery, I know...). My Bebe Girl was so exhausted, she cried for the next two days! Some of the deals won't apply now, but a lot of them will, so I'm still going to share what I got:

Rite-Aid

I don’t go to Rite-Aid very often. They are further from my house than CVS and Walgreens, and it takes a little longer to get my rebates from them.

I have fallen in love with the facial cleansing cloths from L’Oreal though, and they were FREE after rebate at Rite-Aid least week. Also, the store brand diapers were buy one get one FREE.

Here was my transaction:

$5.99 L’Oreal Revitalift 30 Count Towelettes
$18.98 2 packs of Rite-Aid Diapers
-$1.00 L’Oreal Coupon (These can be found pretty regularly in the SmartSource Inserts)
-$9.49 B1G1 Free Diaper

I paid $15.56 Out Of Pocket.
I will get back $5.99 Rebate.

Walgreens

This trip to Walgreens was a little pricy, but I will get most of it back through the Easy Saver Rebate program. I also found one special little ink cartridge on clearance made just for my printer!

$3.99 Excedrin Express Gels (FREE after rebate item!)
$1.99 Lypsyl Lip Moisturizer (FREE after rebate item!)
$3.79 Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste (more than FREE after rebate & coupon!)

This was my first time couponing at Target. I love Target, so I was very happy to go armed with my new knowledge and skills! I even made a new friend who was in full battle mode as well!

Here’s what I worked out:

$7.70 (10) Kraft Easy Macs

$1.04 (2) Trial Sized AquaFresh
.99 Trial Sized Dove Go Fresh Body Wash

Bullseye!

Kroger

I’m not going to list everything I got, because it was a pretty big trip. I just want to hit some of the highlights:

Stacking Manufacturer’s coupons with those loaded on my Kroger card at Shortcuts.com, I got these deals:

$1.75 Each Betty Crocker Fruit Snacks
$1.16 Each Hamburger/Tuna/Chicken Helper Dinner
$1.20 Each Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mix (Try the Triple Chocolate Chunk!)
$1.80 Cheerios (Big Box!)
$1.30 Pillsbury Ready to Bake Cookies
50 cents for Yoplait Yo-Plus Yogurt
$1.29 Private Selection Organic Tortilla Chips

I made a profit on the Nature’s Valley Granola Bars! Shortcuts.com took off 60 cents, but I had a peelie coupon to get them free when you buy 3 General Mills cereals.

Got Ronzoni Smart Taste Pasta for 50 cents.
Got Free Cottonelle Toilet Paper with these coupons.
Pop-Tarts were a decent sale price ($1.98 for 12 count), but I was out of coupons. :(
Tuna was on sale for 33 cents a can--stocked up!
I used my Old El Paso coupons, and now I’m kicking myself ‘cause there’s a good sale at Brookshire’s for exact same things I bought!
I bought 30 of the qualifying “Buy 15 get $3 off”, so that saved $6.
I also used $5 off $75 purchase from my Entertainment Book.

My total Out-Of-Pocket was $68.22
My savings was $78.47 (56 %)

I think buying milk hurts my savings percentage, but it was only $3.50 a gallon…I bought 4=$14.

This also took me over $100 for the month, so I get 10 cents off each gallon of gas when I fill up next. That’s about $2 worth of savings.

Brookshire's

Someday, Brookshire’s is going to stop TRIPLING coupons. I don’t know when, so I keep going back to take advantage of as much saving as I can! I got a lot of the same things I’ve been getting--just adding to the stockpile.

They also had a good price on their store brand cheese.

I was able to use a Pillsbury Toaster Strudel coupon on the Pillsbury Toaster Scrambles product--which we like sooo much better…You could try this at your store?

I got FREE mustard with this coupon, along with some cheap hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce.

My total Out-Of-Pocket was $35.47.
My savings was $49.25 (61%).

September 21 Coupons/The Coupon Clippers

Honestly, I'm not that excited about the coupons this week. There's a lot for cleaning supplies and air fresheners. I'm afraid that the only good ones won't be on my local paper anyway, because my region kinda stinks!

So I have placed my very first order with The Coupon Clippers! They are a coupon clipping service. Here's what my order looks like: (The ones in purple are new this week.)

(20) Hunt's Canned Tomato Product on TWO, 11 oz. or larger, $0.40 - Exp 11/30/08
Price each: $0.05
Total: $1.00

(10) Kleenex Cottonelle Toilet Paper on ONE 4-pack or larger, $0.50 - Exp 10/25/08

Total: $1.00
(5) Minute Rice product on any ONE, $0.40 - Exp 12/13/08

(5) Quaker Old Fashioned or Quick Oats, 18 oz. or larger, $0.50 - Exp 11/30/08

Price Each: $0.08
Total: $0.40

Subtotal: $5.10
Shipping cost (USPS): $0.59
Admin Fee: $0.50
Total: $6.19

$6.19 sounds like a lot, I know. But here's the lowdown: all of these will double and my local store, Brookshire's, will even triple them right now. I have a potential savings of $88.50! And because I handpicked the coupons, I know they are for things that I want/need/will definitely use.

Keep a few things in mind when using this kind service:

  • Make sure you have plenty of time before the expiration date for shipping and use of the coupon.
  • Read the description very carefully to make sure if you'll have to buy more than one item or if it says "DND" (means Do Not Double).
  • You have to order $3 minimum subtotal.
  • Most coupons require a minimum quantity of 5.
  • You will pay a 50 cent "Admin Fee" on each order regardless of the order size. So make the most of each order.
  • Make sure it is a "Manufacturer's Coupon" or at least a store you have locally. They do sell some store coupons, and they are mixed right in with all the others.
  • The Coupon Clipper accept Visa/MC and paypal.

As I said, this is my first order. I will be reporting back with my results! Hold your breath!

In the meantime, you can check out the full preview for this week's coupons here or here. There are two inserts: 1 SmartSource and 1 Valassis.

There's a new coupon on the Coupons.com widget to the right for a Free McCafe coffee drink at McDonald's with any purchase. You can get a small hot drink or a medium iced drink (my preference!). They come in mocha, mmmm.

Remember, after the first one prints, hit back and refresh for a second one!

I'm a Winner!

Here I am, living proof that giveaways really do have winners!

Ronell at Deal Finding Mom was hosting a Coupon Giveaway. I left a comment and subscribed to her blog (which is quite wonderful!) and, simple as that, I won some coupons! Easy peasy!

I can't wait to host my first giveaway and make someone else's day! Be on the lookout!

Betty Crocker Warm Delights

I am a chocoholic. Admittedly. Unashamedly.
And Betty Crocker has made me a very happy addict.
I have just recently discovered their Warm Delights. My local grocery store, Brookshire's, has been tripling coupons, so I've been getting my "fix" for only 29 cents. There are also coupons for these on my widget to the right, at coupons.com, and for loadabiliy on your Kroger card at Shortcuts.com.
My fave is the Hot Fudge Brownie, but the Molten Chocolate Cake is quite scrum-diddly as well. If you want to know about the caramel or cinnamon, you'll have to ask someone else. My coupons are selectively saved for the chocolate fiend's satisfaction.

Brookshire's September 17-23

If you can't tell already, I've become quite a fan of Brookshire's lately! They are continuing to TRIPLE our coupons up to and including 60 cents...Oh, the freebies I have received with open arms! Last night, I was even annoyingly affectionately referred to as "The Coupon Lady"!

You do need a "Thank You" card for most sale prices. And they will only triple one of each type of coupon per transaction, others will be redeemed at face value.

This week, they are having a Moonlight Madness sale on Thursday, September 18th, from 4pm to 10pm. Get your store's new ad and find these truly fantastic coupons:

Save $1 off any REGULAR priced PRODUCE item
Save $1 off any REGULAR priced FROZEN FOOD item
Save $1 off any REGULAR priced HEALTH & BEAUTY CARE item
Save $1 off any REGULAR priced DELI item
Save $1 off any REGULAR priced BAKERY item
Save $1 off any REGULAR priced MEAT item
Save $2 off any REGULAR priced DETERGENT item (Liquid 100 oz. or more)
Save $2 off any REGULAR priced DOG OR CAT FOOD item

**Each item's price must exceed the value of the coupon, so you will ending up having to spend a little bit. Because you cannot combine these with sale prices or other discounts (per the fine print), I would recommend using these for their store brand items for the best discount. **

Also at the Moonlight Madness sale are the following:

Pepsi or Diet Pepsi 6 Pack/16.9 Oz Bottles--4 for $10
Swanson Pot Pies 7 oz--44 cents each (Limit 12)
Food Club Apple Juice 64 oz--$1.19 (Limit 2)

My Pizza Cutter

Welcome to today's Things I Love Thursday hosted by The Diaper Diaries!

I adore my pizza cutter!

It is stainless steel and I use it for far more than just pizza cutting--although with my sons' pizza habits alone, it would be a neccessity!

I was tired of the classic pizza cutter wheel clogging up with cheese and not rolling or pulling more cheese off as I cut. I bought this one at Bed Bath & Beyond a couple years ago (and I'm sure I used a 20% off or $5 off $15 purchase coupon). You hold this one in both of your fists and rock it back and forth.

Here are some other things I've used it for:

  • Cutting cooled fudge into squares
  • Cutting brownies and cookie bars
  • Cutting homemade dumplings
  • Cutting homemade pasta
  • Chopping onions, bell peppers, garlic, etc.

I found the one in the picture at this website, but I believe you'd find it at Bed Bath & Beyond or Linens & Things to avoid shipping and use a coupon.

I needed ink for my printer, so back to Walgreens! I bought a remanufactured cartridge--kinda broke the typical Walgreens budget, but it was a much better price than buying a new one (and I was far too impatient to order one!).

Tomorrow looks like a great day for Mommies MANAGING to save money. It appears that there will be 3 SmartSource Inserts and 1 Valassis Insert. Check out the full preview at Taylortown Coupon Preview. Locally, I always have some small variances, but it still gives me a good idea what to expect and how many papers I want to buy.

One specific coupon that will more than pay for the paper itself is $2.25 off any Electrasol Powerball Tabs or Gelpacs!

Brookshire's will still be tripling coupons up to 60 cents at least through Tuesday (I'm keeping my fingers crossed for much longer!!!).

My Walgreens and most area Wal-Mart's sell the paper for just 99 cents.

I think I'll manage to get three! ;)

My Paper Trimmer

I love my Zision paper trimmer! It is not the fanciest, but it is so freakin' useful!

I bought this at Hobby Lobby. It is normally priced at $9.99, and I used their regularly available 40% off any regular priced item coupon (available here until tomorrow) and managed to get it for $5.99. I had only planned on using it for scrapbooking. Then, I started using it to trim the kids' portraits that are printed up on sheets. Now, I also use it for clipping coupons! I just read that you can sharpen the blade by trimming a few pieces of aluminum foil--can't wait to try that out!!

Check out Things I Love Thursday and see what you might fall in love with next!
